Camilla Lackberg

Ms Lackberg is a highly successful  author from Stockholm Sweden. I have previously read one of her books, The Ice Princess, and right now I am reading The Preacher. I was happily surprised to find that she has books in between these two titles but my library doesn't have them, so I will have to make a request. I am not really sure what makes me so happy when I read them..... they are simple and much less gruesome than I usually read. Check out this small excerpt for example.

The victim also had a good number of superficial incisions on her body. Also in various stages of healing.
"Good God!" Martin couldn't help blurting out.

Ok- if you read mystery, suspense, and thrillers like I do- superficial incisions are not worthy of a "Good God" these days! That line just made my day though. :-)
The characters are likeable. Their relationships uncomplicated. The police superintendent incompetent. The Scandinavian locations unpronounceable (for me). This somehow all works together and makes for a very enjoyable read.
Surprisingly, on the back cover is a review from USA Today stating in part that "As with all Scandinavian murder mysteries, it's darker, bleaker, and the plot far more sinister than similar American fare". I wonder if they even read this book? Or are they just riding on the popularity of Steig Larsson's writing and  lumping Camilla Lackberg in with him? If so, that is unfortunate because her writing is definitely her own and I couldn't even finish the Larsson books (ok, I watched the movies.). :-)
